Animal sacrifice as religious ritual emerged in the ancient world – including ancient Greece – when animals became domesticated. Humans made sacrifices to gods for peace and good favour. The animal’s blood was poured out, and connected humans with the divine realm. The sacrifice was a way to thank the gods, bargain with gods and celebrate with gods.
